‘Industry’ and ‘Concord’ Terracotta Sculptures
The Industry and Concord figures were built into the alcoves of the old Council Municipal Chambers on the corner Worcester Boulevard and Oxford Terrace. They were created by George Frampton, and were bought by the city council for £20 back in 1882. The two figures represent ‘harmony in the affairs of state and the virtues of utilitarian enterprise’. I have to admit that I’ve walked past this building probably hundreds if not thousands of times and have never noticed these figures before (they are set quite high on the building). Thankfully this photo blog is opening my eyes to my own city, how great is that!
