A Walk Along Whitewash Head Road

August 4, 2013

DSC06618

I was in Scarborough this morning and went for a walk up Whitewash Head Road. It’s a great spot to get some good photos of the city and the mountains, but only if the day is clear and the mountains are visible. Today, was not one of those days. Instead I got moody atmospheric photos of everything else. These are a few of my favourite photos from the walk.

Pride of Medeira flowering along the cliffs.

A stunning wattle in flower with the surf and hills in the background.

Proteas in flower – they are all over the seaside hills.

DSC06540

Waves crashing against the rocks.

What I think is some kind of flowering Aloe.

DSC06598

A very pale Pride of Madeira plant with a bee about to land on it. This was a beautiful colour.

Love what you have captured on such a BLAAAAH day. You should try and get some seeds from that pale echium, it’s gorgeous.

  2. Kaye Shirkey says:

Great photos, well done. I must go for a walk along there myself now!

  3. Magnificent photos! I remember all the echiums in flower on the hills above Sumner, when I visited in late August some years ago. They were glorious.

I have since planted one in my own garden and, left to its own devices, it has multiplied dramatically. I am starting to see some purple on the shrubs now, from my kitchen window. I love it!
