Armageddon Expo in Christchurch

July 1, 2012

I got along to the Armageddon Expo today for some awesome photo opportunities. What a fun and interesting place to hang out for an hour. Plus, so many of the exhibitors were very obliging with their posing – striking great poses for anyone who put a camera in front of them.

People-watching is also a fascinating past-time at an expo like this. So many people went to a lot of effort to dress up in lots of different costumes.

Well worth the 5 buck entry fee.

The Big Model Train Show

October 9, 2011

I went along to the Big Model Train show at Pioneer stadium today. It was so much fun and I am so impressed with the work that has obviously gone into creating these displays. My favourite had to be the first exhibit though  – it was quite a big one with large trains and rather an impressive set of model buildings, cars and people, and I think it had me a little mesmerised! I even took a few videos of the trains moving (if it uploads to YouTube ok I’ll embed it to the post).

I was also very impressed with the doll’s house that was at the back of the stadium. It was amazing and it’s only now that I have looked at the photos up close that I have seen all of the incredible detail that has been put into it (little things like the cat sitting on the chair).

Marching Competition

January 30, 2011

Shots from a Marching competition I attended today with my photo club. Marching is an organised sport in New Zealand for women, it has its origins in the 1930′s (businesses used to compete against each other in sports and have a ‘march in’ – with the marching eventually becoming a competition in its own right).

New Brighton Eco Market

October 31, 2010

This morning I checked out the New Brighton Eco Market in New Brighton mall. The market is one of the initiatives of the New Brighton Project – who work to foster New Brighton as an ‘inclusive healthy, stimulating and co-operative community’. Good on them, as New Brighton needs a helping hand. It’s no secret that this sea side suburb has struggled for some time now. Personally when I go to New Brighton I park near the pier, go for a walk, take some photos of the Pier and then leave (I certainly don’t go there for the shopping or ambience in the mall). I think I’ve had a coffee once or twice in the mall area. This is an area that badly needs to be revitalised – hopefully with the purchase of seven properties in the area by a local property developer the much needed capital investment will be injected that will boost the whole area.

So keep an eye on this little spot – and make sure you get along to the market and do your bit to put the New back into New Brighton.

That happens to be my horoscope for this week – apparently I should prepare to be in the ‘public eye’!
