New Zealand wood pigeons are stunning birds. And this one flew about one foot over my head!

  • Great photo Michele.
Would have recognised him, ours are marginally different.

This is a stunning bird, but I had to chuckle because from the portal it looked like it was wearing a tank top.

Such interesting coloring – it looks like it is wearing a little white jumper. The head and wings are iridescent like the rock dove (pigeon) here – although your wood pigeon’s coloring is darker. I’ve just started a bird watching blog to accompany my city daily photo blog so am very hooked on bird photos now. Very nice photo.

Yip, they are power poopers! One actually got the edge of my lens hood (not me thankfully).

    Hi Michele,
In 1987b I was trekking in the Oxford forest and I saw on top of a branch over my head this stunning vision of a Kereru looking at me with his red eye, He was so wonderful with his emerald green and white feathers with the blue sky background. it let me a very strong emotion of pure beauty
Your pictures are giving to me this great souvenir.
Thanks and have a wonderful day
