Mud Sweat and Tears Race Motukarara Race Course

I went out to the Motukarara Race Course this morning with my photo club, to photograph the Mud Sweat and Tears cross country race. It’s a 5 or 10 km race and as you can see competitors are encouraged to dress up in costume and get as wet and as muddy as they possibly can (the fact that the organisers hose them down and make them slide down a hill into a muddy paddock certainly helps with the later!). Some of the runners made it look very easy!

So the aliens have landed and they like cross country!

As any ballet girl will remember, it’s important to maintain good posture and deportment even if one is covered in mud!

Well done to all the runners I am in awe of you!

Looks like they all were having a grand, muddy time! By now, I guess they’ve all had a hot shower and cleaned up!

The organisers had hot showers at the site ( they were hosing some people down the steam was coming off them!). Looked like fun, even though it was probably cold, wet and exhausting.

Awesome! I was in this, though sadly not in a funky costume (I thought it would be hard enough in normal running gear, though those green lycra suits seemed to be a smart choice practicality-wise) – great to see the sights without the veil of mud. šŸ˜‰ It was actually surprisingly fun – I thought I was foolish to have allowed myself to get roped in but had a ball, and the mud wasn’t even that cold once a couple of hundred people had crawled through it. šŸ˜‰
