So we won the Rugby World cup. By ‘we’ I mean New Zealand. What a relief it was too. Really, I don’t know what the mood of the country would have been if we’d lost. But the men in black did the job that needed to be done and sealed the deal – by one whole point against France. It was nail-biting stuff. But I’m glad I watched the match – even though I thought I couldn’t stand watching the last 10 minutes – the score was just so darn close. And today, the All Blacks arrived in Christchurch to a well-deserved heroes welcome. We lined the streets to get a glimpse of them and the Web Ellis Trophy, and we piled into Hagley Park to hear them speak. It’s estimated that 50,ooo turned out for the parade. As you can see, I was one of them. Christchurch really needed something to celebrate after the year we’ve had. And boy did we let the All Blacks know just how pleased we were about them winning and coming to Christchurch for us. Quite a few of the All Blacks are from Christchurch – so it was also a home coming for them after a long hard year of building up to this moment. Victory is so sweet!
