Paradise Mother Duck with Ducklings

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

I’m now back from my travels (have been in London for the three weeks).  It’s funny going from the beginning of Autumn to early Spring! So I got quite a pleasant surprise when I came across these young ducklings with their Mum (Dad was hanging back). It’s really easy to get up close to the ducks as they are not that wary of people and I suspect they get very well fed. Paradise ducks are endemic to New Zealand – find out more about then at http://www.nzbirds.com/birds/putangi.html

A big thanks to Steve for taking care of the blog while I was away.

Botany quiz…

I have no idea what this is, but it caught my eye. All correct answers go into the draw to win…well, nothing at all.

Kowhai in bloom

I’ve just purchased some “close-up filters” for my camera, and have been experimenting with them. A good time of the year to try in Christchurch – so many flowers! Expect a few more like this one, this week.
