‘Rise from Rubble’ mural, Ibis Hotel

This stunning mural of a silver eye bird and kowhai flower can be seen on Hereford Street on the wall of the Ibis Hotel. It was painted by street artist Brandon Warrell and was part of a design competition run by the city council and voted on by public vote. See https://ccc.govt.nz/news-and-events/newsline/show/2236 for more about the artwork and the artist.

The YMCA in conjunction with the charitable trust PAINT hosted a street art festival recently with large-scale murals going up around the central city (and also New Brighton and Lyttelton). They are quite simply stunning, and I just love seeing these around the city.
