Smith Street Community Gardens

February 25, 2016

I’ve only just recently discovered the amazing community garden on Smith Street in Woolston. It’s huge and I can tell there are a lot of people putting in many hours there. I only became aware of the garden after the wonderful artworks went onto the fence beside the garden (the fence art was by Girl Guiding New Zealand).

According to the sign at the garden, allotments are available for community groups.

The Edmonds Factory Garden on Ferry Road

May 4, 2015

The Edmonds Factory Garden on Ferry Road is a beautiful spot any time of the year, but like many of Christchurch’s parks and gardens it’s quite special during Autumn.

Mystery Machine in Woolston

September 2, 2014

A mystery machine appeared in Woolston a few weeks back – I’ve been meaning to stop by and photograph it. Not sure what it does, kind of looks like a giant sewing machine to me (I’m sure it’s not). It has Perkins Maker Manchester on the side of it. Also looks a little steampunkish!

Carrot Cake at Portstone Cafe / Garden Centre

August 24, 2014

Jealous much? The cake was delicious! So I got to combine two of my favourite things today, eating cake and wandering around a garden centre. It was mission central in the garden today – pulling out the winter weeds and planting bulbs and seeds for the summer. So a quick stop at the local garden centre (Portstone in Woolston) was required, and well, seriously, who could pass up the chance to enjoy their carrot cake? I didn’t eat it all though hence the two forks!
